Overview of Program(s)

Dr. Ernest E. Just Saturday Science Academy
and Summer Marine Science Program

The Bridge Builders Foundation Saturday Science and Summer Marine Science Program is a vital initiative that provides African American and LatinX youth with opportunities to explore STEM disciplines and careers. By engaging in hands-on learning activities and workshops, students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while discovering their passion for science, technology, engineering, and math. Moreover, the program aims to increase diversity in STEM fields, which are currently dominated by white males. It is crucial to ensure that people from all backgrounds have equal access to STEM education and careers to address the growing demand for diverse perspectives in these fields and to create a more inclusive society.

The program also provides exposure to BIPOC professors and field practitioners, allowing students to see themselves represented in STEM fields and providing them with role models. This can help break down barriers that have historically prevented underrepresented groups from pursuing STEM careers and inspire students to pursue their careers in these fields.
