About

William F. Smith is a licensed clinical social worker with over 40 years of specialized experience working with children, families, and youth who have committed sexual offenses. A Los Angeles resident since 1971, he brings a unique combination of military leadership and clinical expertise to his work. Mr. Smith earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, where his involvement in military-focused organizations including the National Honorary Society of Scabbard and Blades led to his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. During his three years of service, he rose to Captain, leading as a platoon leader and serving as a special court martial officer and air trans-mobility and special projects officer. Following his military career, he earned his Master's degree in Social Work from Howard University in 1971, specializing in psychiatric clinical work. In private practice for over four decades, Mr. Smith has become a nationally recognized expert in treating young people who have committed sexual offenses, a highly specialized field with few practitioners. He and his colleagues are frequently invited to present at local and national conferences on evidence-based treatment approaches for this population. Mr. Smith is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the National Association of Black Social Workers, and holds Board Certification as a Diplomat in Clinical Social Work with the State of California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
